Herban Renewal has donated a Baby on the Go set of their Sweet Cheeks baby care products for a lucky reader. Included in the travel size set is one baby hair spritz, one baby body wash, one baby body lotion, and one refillable baby powder shaker. These are adorable and they smell wonderful. Each is carefully made with some great botanical ingredients.
Sweet Cheeks products are made with more natural ingredients than standard baby care products. The ingredients vary, so some products are more natural than others. For instance, the hair spritz is made with water, essential oils and fragrance. The Baby Powder contains vegetable powder, tricalcium phosphate and essential oils, so it is completely natural.
Both the lotion and the bodywash contain some ingredients that are a little less natural and a little more controversial. Controversial does not mean bad – just that there is disagreement about them.
First let me explain why you DO want a preservative in your body care products. Any water-based product can grow nasty mold or bacteria – including those that cause skin or bladder infections, even staph. You can read more about preservatives and why we need them.
These are preserved with parabens – which have a long history of safety but some people have raised concerns about them. You will find parabens in almost all conventional liquid soaps, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and other body care products as well as many more natural products. The only reason I even mention this is that some people like to know about these ingredients.
The lotion has lots of great botanicals including aloe vera, honey extract, and extracts of lemon, fennel, sage, and yarrow. It also has great moisturizers like jojoba, cocoa butter and shea butter. It has a wonderful, silky feel to it and absorbs quickly.
The body wash has aloe vera, witch hazel, lavender, chamomile, sage, sesame seed oil, avocado oil and wheat germ oil. Avocado is great for skin and contains lots of moisturizers and skin-nourishing ingredients.
The powder is a good alternative to traditional talc powders – which have been linked to female cancers. Talc is also very bad for baby’s lungs. This natural powder contains no talc or other mineral powders.
The gift set comes in a handy woven gift bag.
